Strange though that those "vexillophobes" have no problem with Hamas flags, the EU flag or the "LGBTQI etc" flag. I wonder why. Or perhaps not.

Nice piece Laura !

Curiously I am vexed and ill whenever I see a Pro-Hamas flag !

Ah, yes, the "right" kind of flag - Frankly, I've gotten to the point that when I see one, I make it a point to voice my displeasure.

Might as well show people what side I espouse!!

an illuminating observation Alan, and I believe it shows how effectively you have been propagandised (and let's face it, Laura knows her stuff). A people protesting their literal genocide provokes in you only vexation and disgust.

Thanks for your comment Kevin, there are usually two sides to each story and of course the third correct one.

Hamas carried out and is carrying out war crimes daily using the Palestinian civilians as their shields both physically and as part of their propaganda. I do think Israel may have gone too far on rare occasions but if you lived next door to neighbours that have declared their goal is to wipe out all Jews what would YOU do ?

not this. I wouldn't slaughter tens of thousands of women and children. Let's remind ourselves, Zionists waded in there in 1948, turfed them all out of their homes, and stuck the ones that remained in an open air concentration camp. And are now in the process of a literal genocide.

Literal genocide?

I think not.

Oh, by the way, by those terrible Zionists who “waded in” were the survivors of a pretty good attempted genocide. After all, there were only six million or so Jews exterminated in the Nazi extermination camps.

Regarding the deaths of Palestinian civilians in their “open air concentration camp” all that can be said is that they were unfortunate victims of the Hamas ( their overlords) decision to attack, kill and take hostages; some of whom are still incarcerated by their captors.

Had it not occurred to you that the problem might well be the Palestinians. After all if they are so deserving of aid and understanding why do the adjacent Arab nations not come to their assistance?

Do a bit of intelligent research and you will understand why there is a general lack of sympathy for their plight in their part of the world.

One shining example of Palestinian influence is Lebanon, that erstwhile jewel which used to be a largely Christian country until it was changed forever by the presence of the PLO.

Ask the Egyptians why they have built a wall to stop the Palestinians entering their country. Gently enquire of some Saudis why they have an almost visceral antipathy towards Palestinians.

Just to conclude, a nice little footnote:

Here we are, in September. Mellow season and all that stuff.

In a few days time it’ll be the fifth. You can celebrate the anniversary of the Munich Olympic village come and die party thoughtfully organised by Black September in 1972.

Can you please comment on the business of our leaders standing between furled national flags when it suits them? I mean the ones Boris stood between and Starmer stands between when it suits them but suddenly if anyone copies their "patriotism" it is now not the done thing?

Oh goodness, that made me laugh - what a great article, and perfect for a rainy Sunday afternoon!

My question is:

Why on earth are these nutcases so opposed to them?

I have lived in and visited many countries and this kind of behaviour is non-existent, so what is it about a certain type of Brit that encourages this unexplained and demented hatred of their flag?

I presume that if it was an EU one, like the ridiculous political display a few years ago at the Proms, that this would be perfectly acceptable??

I have spoken to many people from different countries in Europe about this phenomenon, and they all find it incomprehensible....

What on earth is wrong with feeling patriotic pride in your flag and your country?

What is it about the UK that there is this continuous push to destroy everything that we hold dear?

Keep up the great work Laura! :)

As always a wonderful observation on the great patriotic showing of defiance to our useless government! It is heartwarming to see such national pride where it is sadly lacking in the lunatic lefties who happily fly Pride and Palestinian flags galore. Perhaps this makes me a far right bigot? Ooohhh I don’t care anymore!

We don't fly the flag, but our living room window seats are adorned with (monochrome) union jack cushions, all 3 of our beds have union jack bedding (vintage muted tones, very tasteful 🤣) and I've just purchased oven gloves and tea towels in union jack. My morning bucket of coffee is served in a union jack mug I've had since 2012 (Dunoon, I fear it will come to a sticky end as I don't think I can replace it). Any visitors just have to cope.

Oh and don't get me started on Andy Burnham.....there are skeletons aplenty in his closet.

Interesting article thank you.

There clearly s something wrong with those who hate our national flag. It seems that pandering to this and that group is behind it.

I am so heartened by this. It has even started happening in Australia! Flags are beginning to appear all over the place. There were peaceful marches across the country as people stood for limiting immigration and just being proud of our country. The usual goons in the media and government called the people far right bigots but if that is so then I will wear that label with pride!

All power to you all. So much better than terrorist, Aboriginal, LGBT etc and Ukrainian flags.

I think it's not that they dislike flags, but that they dislike their own historic national identity and would rather everyone just forgot about it. "Too complicated all that stuff from the past, you know! Why don't they just keep it there, where it belongs?!"

Much as I like the Union Jack and the Cross of St George.

St George: many smug tosspots insist he weren’t English but a Terkyman. Truth is he came from Stepney and got all his food from the Snappy Happy Dragon Chinese takeaway hence the origin of the killing the dragon myth. Truth is (again the truth, always with the truth) it was the “dragon” that did for Georgy boy, definitely a boy or was he? Didn’t they make a film about her? And a song.

Any how, he died from mono sodium glutamate poisoning.

Got away from the subject a bit there.

The best flag of all?

Obvious innit.

The whole flag situation is laughable 🤣. How people get worked up when our own countries flag is displayed, whilst virtue signalling by openly flaunting Palestinian or even recently Pakistan flags. What we must realise is the whole situation is part of the ongoing deconstruction and destabilisation of our country, its history, values and sense of belonging. Puppeticians, civil service, the media, local government, police, education et al - has all been subverted over the decades, so now are just following a narrative which we see enveloping us daily. Ignore the BS; treat everything you hear on the media or from politicians as lies or at best half truths; do not be taken in by the false wars or constructed crises, do not comply with digital ID or any move to a central bank digital currency, support local grown food and meat, treat anything coming from the likes of Gates as manipulation and control to be avoided at all costs. Be aware and believe nothing unless confirmed or corroborated by a reliable source. With an open mind and eyes we can hopefully see through the BS and darkness were bombarded with daily…..
