The function and size of government is the source of unresolvable debate between the left and right and is contested at the ballot box every five years in the UK. But regardless of just how much government you want, one function is desired by all: the protection against terrorism. As citizens we demand that our taxes are translated into protection against unlawful and violent intimidation.

Anna Stanley, a former civil servant, has written about her experience of attending a Kings College course called ‘Issues in Countering Terrorism’ designed for civil servants and professionals in Counter Terrorism.

The article is well worth reading since, despite many recent examples of the pervasion of post-modern thinking deep within British institutions, the civil service and government, the political bias and moral flaccidity she exposes are breath-taking.
