Pornography is to love and intimacy, what Facebook is to friendship and what Twitter is to rhetoric and debate. They all scratch unsatisfyingly at basic human needs they will never fulfil. Social media is a nuclear grade weapon and our human brains are the battlefield.
I don’t have an issue with pornography per se. Just as I don’t have a problem with sex. I’m about as sex positive as they come. The trouble is ‘sex positive’ confers very odd values these days. The explicit representation of sexual activity and nudity has always been part of human culture and it always will be. But if you retain any quaint idea that the online porn sites are simply representing sex, you must dispel that illusion now.
Pornography has changed.
