Beware of bias.
The ONS's 2021 Covid anniversary report was accused of bias. As it produces its vaccine report we should ask, could it happen again?
Today the ONS is publishing ‘Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status, England: deaths occurring between 1 April 2021 and 31 December 2022’.
I have not read it yet, beyond the bullet points. I will do. And I look forward to reading analysis and opinions, especially from science journalists, doctors and data analysts, from different sources. Because cold, hard data can be misrepresented.
The ONS is rightly famed for data analysis and reports. But even the ONS can be guilty of bias. Here’s one historical example from the pandemic.
